The Realtor of the Year is an award given throughout the Real Estate Industry to one Realtor who has excelled in the community and the Real Estate Business. It is an annual award given generally on a state by state and local board basis. The items considered for this award are:

1) Community Service - Mens church league softball coach for 10 years, former church trustee, a member of the Glenwood Ruritan.

2) Business Services - McDowell Economic Development Association Board of Directors, McDowell Technical Community College Small Business Board of Directors, Past President of McDowell's Board of Realtors in 1998, and a member of the McDowell Chamber of Commerce. Also a member of the Board of Directors for McDowell Board of Realtors from 1994 to present and the North Carolina Association of Realtors State Director in 1998.

3) Real Estate Contributions. Multi-million dollar producer. Sold 2 manufacturing facilities which brought over 70 new jobs to McDowell county in 1999.
